Contact Gov. Brown Immediately and Respectfully Urge Him to VETO Gun Control Bills
As we reported last week, numerous bills are on Gov. Jerry Brown’s desk that would create more gun control in the state and attack hunting rights. We need your help! Gov. Brown has until Sept. 30 to either sign or veto these bills. Please contact the Governor immediately and respectfully request that he veto the following bills:
- SB 221: This bill would prohibit gun shows at the Cow Palace by making the lawful sale of firearms and ammunition illegal there. There is no valid reason why firearms and ammunition sales at gun shows held there should be stopped as the shows are safe, secure and conducted lawfully. The Department of Finance opposes this bill.
- SB 1100: This bill would raise the minimum age from 18 to 21 years old to purchase any firearm with limited exceptions. The Dept. of Finance opposes this bill, stating it would require over $1.5 million over the next three years.
- SB 1177: This bill would, with few exceptions, would prohibit someone from purchasing more than one firearm in a 30-day period. The Dept. of Finance opposes this bill.
- SB 1487: The so-called “Iconic African Species Protection Act” would prohibit the importation, and possession in some instances, of certain, legally-taken, African species. The Dept. of Financeopposes this bill, stating its cost in the next fiscal year to be $3 million, and then $2.8 million annually.
There is no evidence that age limit or restricting gun purchases to one per month would have an impact on the criminal misuse of firearms. These bills will do nothing to increase public safety, or in the case of SB 1487, improve conservation efforts.
Please contact Gov. Brown immediately and respectfully urge him to VETO SB 221, SB 1100, SB 1177, and SB 1487. Contact information can be found below.
