Kayak angler takes home $1,100 in winnings
NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (July 31, 2019) – Brendan Bayard, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, measured a combined limit of 61.00 inches to win the final regular-season event for the 2019 Louisiana Division of the IFA Kayak Fishing Tour on July 28 at Houma, Louisiana.
Bayard adds this win to his two previous IFA Kayak Tour wins. The angler put inat the Grand Isle area and found a high tide along with scattered thunderstorms. He fished top-water baits for his 20.25-pound trout and Berkley Gulp! for his 40.75-inch redfish.
Although winning on the IFA Kayak Tour is nothing new for Bayard, the angler knows the competition is among the best and is fortunate to come out on top.
“It feels awesome,” said Bayard. “I feel lucky to win with this talented field of kayak anglers.”
Second-place finisher Brandon Barton, of Pensacola, Florida, measured a total of 60.50 inches to win $1,035. He split his time between Grand Isle and Leeville, fishing top-water baits for trout and deep jigging Berkley Gulp! for redfish.
“It was great, flat calm weather in the morning although pop-up storms started around noon,” said Barton. “Overall, it was a great day fishing with good friends.”
Aaron Clay, of Kiln, Mississippi, also split his time between Grand Isle and Leeville. The angler boated a 18.68-inch trout with a top-water bait and a 41.50-inch redfish on a lipless crankbait. The angler’s redfish was the longest of the tournament and won the $100 Berkley Big Redfish award.
Tenth-place finisher Matt Carr boated a 20.50-inch trout that won the $100 Berkley Big Trout award.
The next stop for the IFA Kayak Tour is Corpus Christi, on August 11. Anglers who enter at least two events and compete in at least one event will be qualified for the 2019 IFA Kayak Tour Championship.
