Ducks Unlimited (DU) recently announced that Doug Barnes has been named the organization’s first Chief Brand Officer (CBO). In his new role, Barnes will lead a dedicated team who will develop and execute all of DU’s comprehensive communications and marketing activities.
“We are excited to have Doug as our first-ever Chief Brand Officer – nurturing, broadening and deepening our iconic conservation brand,” said DU CEO Adam Putnam. “Doug is an authentic outdoorsman who understands our essence while also designing the path for reaching new audiences on multiple platforms to connect them to our habitat conservation mission.”
Barnes has worked for DU for more than two decades, and previously served as DU’s Creative Director where he led a team of talented creative professionals in the design and production of DU’s print media and video productions.
“I’m honored to be named Chief Brand Officer of this remarkable organization,” Barnes said. “Throughout my years as Creative Director, I embraced the opportunity to promote and grow the legacy brand that is Ducks Unlimited. The significance and influence DU holds within the conservation community is important now and will be even more important in the future. It’s my goal to continue to embrace our loyal DU members and volunteers and broaden our base of support by ensuring that even more people become aware of DU and the crucial role we play in conserving North America’s wetlands and wildlife.”
As Chief Brand Officer, Barnes will develop the capacity and effectiveness of DU’s communications and marketing team and employ strategies and tactics that will maintain and enhance DU’s brand and reputational value. He will also ensure the timely and thoughtful execution of DU’s internal and external branding and communications activities.
