WEST POINT, MS – The Mossy Oak Fishing Team begins fishing the 2018 Huk Bassmaster Elite at Upper Chesapeake Bay presented by Mossy Oak in Harford County, Maryland. This tournament is presenting itself to be a four-day battle for the anglers as flooded water and south winds are setting the stage for extremely tough conditions.
Currently sitting in 5th place in the Bassmaster Angler of the Year standings is Mossy Oak Fishing Pro, Ott DeFoe. DeFoe explained: “This is going to be a very interesting event. We have had a ton of rain, south winds and very high tides to deal with so far. All of those are making for tough fishing. My plan is to find one or two areas and fish hard with multiple baits and make the most of it!”
Matt Lee had the following to say about his approach to the event: “Wind and rain have been the story of the week. The water level has been really high, but should stabilize for the event. This is definitely a challenging fishery, but these guys are the best in the world. I’m looking forward to adjusting day-to-day and putting together a solid week!”
Former Bassmaster Angler of the Year, Brandon Palaniuk explained: “This week will be the second time I’ve fished the Chesapeake Bay and it’s throwing us a curve ball! We have been dealing with abnormally high and muddy water, making a challenging fishery that much tougher. You could say this week is going to be a grind!”
Mossy Oak Fishing Pro, Gerald Swindle stated the following: “The Chesapeake Bay is setting up some very tough conditions for this week’s Elite event. With flooding north of the Chesapeake, the waters are on the rise making an extremely high tide even higher. The Susquehanna River has had to open the flood gates which is dumping muddy water into the north end of the bay.
The Mossy Oak Fishing Team, all leaders in the sport of bass fishing, Kevin VanDam, Jordan Lee, Ott DeFoe, Matt Lee, Gerald Swindle and Brandon Palaniuk – will be on-site, fishing hard. Follow Mossy Oak Fishing’s Facebook page and Instagram page for live updates from the event and the anglers.
