Salt Lake City, Utah: The Mule Deer Foundation today called on the U.S. Senate to quickly confirm David Bernhardt as the next Secretary of the Interior. Following is a statement from MDF President/CEO Miles Moretti:
“The Mule Deer Foundation strongly supports David Bernhardt as Secretary of the Interior. David is an avid hunter and outdoorsman from Rifle, Colorado, and he has a personal connection to the West and to the issues that impact wildlife and hunters in this region. He also has extensive experience at many levels within the Department of the Interior and has tremendous legal knowledge on western land management.
We have worked closely with Bernhardt and his team as they have led the implementation of Secretarial Order 3362 on migratory big game corridors and winter range along with other priorities important to hunters. He has also been a supporter of the habitat stewardship projects on BLM lands that MDF has helped to lead that are making a big difference for mule deer, black-tailed deer, sage grouse and so many other species across the West. We strongly encourage Senators to quickly confirm him as our next Secretary of the Interior so that he can continue the good work and partnerships that the Department has engaged in during his tenure as Deputy Secretary and Acting Secretary.”
The Mule Deer Foundation is the only conservation group in North America dedicated to restoring, improving and conserving mule deer and black-tailed deer and their habitat, with a focus on science and program efficiency. MDF is a strong voice for hunters in access, wildlife management and conservation policy issues. MDF acknowledges regulated hunting as a viable management component and is committed to recruitment and retention of men, women and youth into the shooting sports and conservation.
