SUNDERLAND, Vermont – Last fall, legendary family-owned companies Orvis and Barbour launched a sweepstakes to give away a vintage Land Rover Defender. The winner was announced on August 23, and these two heritage companies couldn’t be more pleased.
The lucky winner was Massachusetts resident Sabrina Lanz. Last September, Lanz, who enjoys sporting clays, attended the annual Orvis Game Fair at the Sandanona Shooting Grounds in Millbrook, New York. It was the kick-off of the Defender sweepstakes, and she decided to enter. Ten months and several hundred thousand additional entries later, her name was selected. When she received the email notification, her first response was “Are you serious??!!!,” followed immediately by a second email, which simply read “Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
A long-time fan of both brands, Lanz owns five Barbour jackets, and has three dogs who are engaged in various activities including agility, therapy and dock diving and are fully outfitted with Orvis products. Part of the pleasure of winning the Defender is that it will provide the perfect transportation for her dogs.
“The Barbour Land Rover Defender campaign has been a continuation of our long and successful relationship with Orvis,” said Tom Hooven, general manager of Barbour Inc. “With our shared passion for the country lifestyle, Orvis was the perfect partner to exclusively carry the Defender collection. We congratulate Sabrina Lanz as the winner of the Barbour Defender.”
Orvis Retail Marketing Manager Tory Myler said, “We are thrilled that Sabrina and her dogs are the winners of the Defender. The fact that Sabrina lives and loves the Orvis and Barbour brands lifestyle only makes her winning the grand prize sweeter.”
The keys to the Defender were presented to Lanz at a celebratory event at, fittingly, Sandanona Shooting Grounds. For a list of additional prizewinners, go to Orvis/Barbour Defender Sweepstakes.
