Washington, DC – (FEBRUARY 18, 2020) – Safari Club International, the leader in defending the freedom to hunt and promoting wildlife conservation worldwide, is pleased to announce the hiring of Pedro Vitorino to provide chapter development and membership services for SCI in Europe. He will also provide support to SCI’s new Europe Committee.
Pedro comes to SCI from his position as Editor in Chief for “Caça & Cães de Caça” the largest Portuguese monthly hunting magazine. “Caça & Cães de Caça” is part of the Editorial Grupo V, one of the most important editorial companies in Spain and Portugal. Pedro has been with the magazine since 2005.
A prolific writer, Pedro has published more than 30 articles per year in the following magazines: Caça Maior & Safaris, Caza Mayor, Federcaza and Pesca Submarina.
In 2007 Pedro became a regular participant in the weekly television hunting show “Coutos & Coutadas” which aired on Portuguese national public TV.
Pedro has produced more than 30 video documentaries about international big game and small game hunting for the Spanish and Portuguese TV channels “Cazavision” and “Caza y Pesca”. He was awarded with the “Best Hunting TV Documentary Award 2008”.
Hunting is a family tradition for Pedro. His father and grandfather were both hunters. He received a hunting permit at the age of 16, the minimum legal age, and began hunting small game. Pedro has hunted in more than 15 countries in Europe, Africa and Asia.
In 2010 Pedro “discovered” Safari Club International and its mission. As a result, he founded the SCI Lusitânia Chapter in Portugal. He served as a member of the Chapter Board from 2014-2018.
Pedro will be working closely with Jason St. Michael, SCI’s Field Coordinator.
“I am excited to join the SCI team and look forward to serving the organization’s European members and volunteers to preserve the critical role hunters play in wildlife conservation around the world,” Vitorino said.
“We are excited to welcome Pedro to our team,” said SCI CEO W. Laird Hamberlin. “His wealth of knowledge and extensive background in hunting and wildlife conservation issues will help SCI fulfill its missions of protecting the freedom to hunt and promoting wildlife conservation worldwide as well as provide a vital point of contact for our European members.”
