Pheasants Forever & Heritage Cooperative Develop First-of its-Kind Agronomy/Conservation Partnership in Central Ohio with Hiring of Sarah Moore

New position made possible by Heritage Cooperative, NFWF, and Truterra, LLC

Pheasants Forever has expanded its Precision Agriculture Initiative to Ohio with the recent hiring of Sarah Moore as a Precision Ag and Conservation Specialist. This first-of-its-kind partnership with Heritage Cooperative will have Moore working with the agricultural leader’s staff and growers to integrate conservation practices on less profitable cropland acres, seeking solutions to both farm profitability and natural resource conservation.

In her main role, Moore will collaborate with Heritage Cooperative customers to provide on-farm conservation solutions by utilizing the Truterra™ Insights Engine – targeting return-on-investment (ROI) at a sub-field scale – to define areas where alternative crops and/or conservation practices are more profitable for producers than traditional row crops. Serving as a conservation expert for the greater region, Moore will use this data to foster and expand Heritage Cooperative’s public-private partnerships with farmers, crop consultants, state and federal conservation agencies, and other organizations. The position is highly focused on creating profitable and sustainable farming outcomes for central Ohio producers.

“As a trusted advisor to Ohio farm families and a leader in delivering innovation to the farm gate, Heritage Cooperative is excited to work alongside Sarah and the Pheasants Forever and Truterra, LLC teams to support Ohio farmers’ sustainable agriculture and stewardship efforts,” said Jeff Osentoski, President and CEO, Heritage Cooperative.  “Working together, we can have a real impact, helping to safeguard the environment through conservation practices, while also helping farmers focus on profit potential and the economic health of their farm.”

Moore is a graduate of Wheaton College in Massachusetts where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology before tackling a Master of Science degree in Agronomy and Agroecology at the University of Minnesota from 2017-2019. As a graduate research assistant in Minnesota and a research technician of three years at the University of Hawai’i Mānoa, her experiences and skills in the fields of agriculture collaboration, research, and communication make her uniquely qualified to serve as the state’s first precision ag and conservation specialist. In her free time, Moore is an avid hiker and world traveler.

“Farmers and landowners often believe that they have to choose between economic and environmental sustainability. Working with Pheasants Forever and Heritage Cooperative provides me the unique opportunity to work directly with these stakeholders to dispel this misconception and increase sustainable practices on Ohio’s ag lands,” stated Sarah Moore.

“Ohio is quickly becoming a leader in precision ag technology and sustainable agriculture, and we are thrilled to add Sarah to our growing team as she assists Heritage Cooperative customers in achieving their vision for farm profitability and wildlife benefits,” said Cody Grasser, Ohio state coordinator for Pheasants Forever.

This position was made possible with support from the National Fish and Wildlife FoundationHeritage Cooperative, and Truterra, LLC. Moore is based at the headquarters of Heritage Cooperative in Delaware, Ohio.
