Team Cenci/Kennedy Wins IFA Redfish Tour Event at Hopedale, Louisiana

IFA Redfish Tour event pays out more than $53,000

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (April 17, 2018) – Chris Cenci, of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, and Chris Kennedy, of Metairie, Louisiana, weighed a two-fish limit that totaled 18.15 pounds to win the first regular-season event for the Louisiana Division of the IFA Redfish Tour presented by Cabela’s on April 14 at Hopedale, Louisiana. The team won a fully rigged Ranger RB190 boat prize package powered by a 90-horsepower, four-stroke Mercury outboard valued at $26,706 for first place.

Faced with rough weather, the team concentrated on open flats approximately 20 miles from the launch.

“Conditions were tough with 20-25 mph winds, lighting and rain,” said Cenci. “We planned for it, but you never know when it comes to weather and fishing.”

Cenci and Kennedy attempted to located scattered fish previously found during pre-fishing. The anglers blind-casted Berkley Gulp! and other soft plastics while drifting.

“We had a game plan and stuck with it,” said Cenci. “We’ve been fishing together for 10 years with lots of top-10 finishes, so it feels good to finally get our first IFA win.”

In addition to the Ranger boat and motor package, the team padded their winnings with $2,513 in Anglers Advantage cash and the $500 Berkley Big Fish award. Their 9.54-pound kicker was caught on Berkely Gulp, netting an extra $250 credit to the Berkley website and brought their total winnings to $30,013.

Longtime IFA Tour anglers Chad Dufrene and Barnie White took second place with 16.58 pounds. The duo targeted their limit with spinnerbaits and spoons in the Delacroix area. For their efforts, the team took home a total of $5,252 in winnings.

Third-place finishers Casey Brunning, of Madisonville, Louisiana, and Ty Hibbs, of Metairie, Louisiana, brought 16.33 pounds to the scale to win $2,500. The anglers threw spoons and Berkley Gulp! in the Delacriox area. The team also experienced tough conditions.

“We feel great about our finish, but conditions were about as bas as they could get,” Brunning said.

The next stop for the IFA Redfish Tour is set for April 28 at Georgetown, South Carolina. Teams that compete in at least two regular-season events will be qualified for the 2018 IFA Redfish Tour Championship.
