ATHENS, GA (August 21, 2020) – Traveling out of state to hunt this fall? Do you know if you’ll be hunting in a chronic wasting disease (CWD) zone? You can easily find out using the free CWD map layer in the onX Hunt App, the leader in mobile mapping technology for outdoor adventures. The Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA) partnered with onX in 2018 to create the information layer that can help deer hunters fight the spread of CWD, and the group works with onX to update the layer immediately whenever CWD is detected in new counties.
The CWD layer is included free for all who purchase the onX Hunt App (20% off with code “QDMA”). When the nationwide layer is activated, it highlights in red each county where the disease has been confirmed. Tapping or clicking inside any affected county will pull up the QDMA’s CWD web page for additional information.
“QDMA’s CWD map layer in onX Hunt is designed to make deer hunters more aware of CWD and its presence so they can comply with harvest, testing, and carcass transportation rules intended to help stop the spread of this serious disease,” said Kip Adams, QDMA/NDA Director of Conservation. “When you’re hunting deer in a CWD management zone, it’s critical that you submit samples from any harvested deer for testing, and that you properly dispose of the carcass before leaving the zone.”
“With the discovery of CWD in our home state of Montana in the 2017 hunting season, onX has experienced a real eye-opener on this nationwide issue,” said Matt Seidel, onX Hunt Product Manager. “We are excited to join forces with QDMA — who is at the forefront of CWD research and is actively working with state and federal agencies — in the search for a solution for the future. Together we can help educate hunters about CWD and bring awareness to this issue.”
As part of their partnership with QDMA/NDA, onX Hunt is offering a 20% discount off their Premium Membership by using code “QDMA” at onXmaps.com. The onX Hunt App is available on iTunes or the Google Play Store, as well as at www.onxmaps.com.
QDMA/NDA will continue to fight for deer hunters by supporting CWD research and management efforts and ensuring hunters have access to the most accurate information on managing and preventing the spread of CWD. For more information search the #FightCWD hashtag on social media or visit:
